Virginia in Song Notecards Virginia in Song Notecards

Price: $9.95
Sale Price: $6.00

Sheet music from the piano era, the heyday of Tin Pan Alley (1890–1940), could be purchased from local music stores for 25 cents. Songs by Irving Berlin and George M. Cohan sold in the millions and inspired countless imitators who hoped to tap into a local market. A number of lyricists and composers wrote tunes about Virginia. The illustrations on the sheet music helped reinforce the notion that Virginia was a land where everyone lived in a mansion and romance was in the air.

The music covers illustrated on these notecards are in the William W. Cole Sheet Music Collection at the Virginia Historical Society. In addition, examples of items included in the sheet music collection are featured in the Society's flagship exhibition, The Story of Virginia.

Set includes 8 notecards (2 each of 4 designs) and envelopes.
