 Zachary Taylor's Presidential China
Unlike the first ladies who relished the opportunity to entertain at state dinners, Margaret Taylor disdained everything about the White House - especially her social obligations. She enlisted the help of her daughter, Elizabeth, who became the official White House hostess. Nonetheless, a set of White House china was created by a British maker and used by the Taylors in the sixteen months they lived at the White House before the president died. The Staffordshire blue pattern features a blue and white American eagle as well as an ornate border design.
