Lt. General Thomas Jonathan Jackson (1824–1863), a native of Clarksburg (now West Virginia) earned his nickname "Stonewall" at the battle of First Manassas. He was mortally wounded by friendly fire at Chancellorsville and died at Guinea's Station, Virginia on May 10, 1863. This painting by William Garl Brown, which was Mrs. Jackson's favorite, was executed after the general's death from a photograph.
