  Salisbury Pewter
No matter what you drink—drink it in true Virginia style! While the Silver in Virginia exhibition at the Virginia Historical Society contains many different silver cups and beakers, these lovely pewter cups represent two distinct designs from the 19th century.
The first is the famous Jefferson cup, designed by Thomas Jefferson around 1809 or 1810 and crafted by John Letelier, a Richmond silversmith, according to a model Jefferson enclosed with his order. The original eight cups were made, in part, from silver obtained by melting down two silver cups bequeathed to Jefferson by his friend and teacher George Wythe. These reproductions, which are sanctioned by Monticello, represent the original size and a small jigger version.
The second is the Virginia Julep Cup, which was designed by John Adam of Alexandria circa 1805. A straight sided beaker, the Julep Cup is one of several forms that came out of Virginia during the colonial and early republic periods. These reproductions represent a faithful recreation of the original as well as a slightly smaller version with an added handle for use as a baby cup!
