 General Robert E. Lee prints
Honor one of Virginia's greatest native sons by displaying this print of John A. Elder's portrait of General Robert E. Lee. He was revered by the South and respected by the North for his leadership of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. Lee's distinguished military career began at West Point—where he graduated second in his class of 1829 and later served as its superintendent—and ended on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox Court House.
After the Civil War, Lee became a voice for national reconciliation. As president of Washington College in Lexington, Va., he spent the remaining five years of his life expanding the college and encouraging his students and fellow citizens to be good Americans.
