The Commonwealth of Virginia was founded in 1607 with the settlement of Jamestown and was one of the thirteen original colonies, which were represented by a circle of stars on the "Betsy Ross" flag. Here, that same fact is reflected in the thirteen gold stars.
In addition, Virginia has several nicknames, including "Mother of Presidents" and "Mother of States" having "given birth" to eight presidents and all or part of at least thirty states respectively . . . a perfect historical footnote for a shirt designed for a lady!
