Blue & White Tableware Collection
One of the driving forces behind the Age of Exploration by the powers of Europe was the hope of finding a quicker trade route to the Orient. Inspired by blue export porcelain from China, these pieces also feature images reminiscent of the ships the Susan Constant, the Godspeed, and the Discovery which brought the first settlers to Jamestown in 1607. In addition, the Virginia Historical Society's flagship exhibition, The Story of Virginia, features several pieces of blue and white Chinese export china.
