Annual Fund
Unrestricted contributions to the Virginia Historical Society's Annual Fund support all operations. These include our outstanding
educational programs, research, conservation, publications, exhibitions, as well as professional and web-based services.
Tax Information
The VHS has determined that contributions up to $999 are fully tax deductible. For contributions of $1,000 to $2,499, $123 is
not deductible, and of $2,500 or more, $148 is not deductible if you use our facilities for a private event. You
may opt out of this benefit to make your contribution fully tax deductible.
The Virginia Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) organization.
A financial statement is available upon request from the Virginia Office of Consumer Affairs in the Department
of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
We participate on GuideStar, the on-line standard for nonprofit accountability.

Recognition
The Annual Fund Program gives special recognition in our quarterly member newsletter,
History Notes,
to those who give $150 or more. Gifts of $250 or more also include membership dues and benefits at the corresponding level of contribution. Corporate matching gifts count toward your total annual contribution.
Matching Gifts
Do you or your spouse work for a matching gift company? If so, help us maximize your tax-deductible contribution
by participating in that matching gift program. The VHS qualifies as a recipient of support from many
companies. If you are unsure if your employer has such a program, call our Development Office at 804.342.9657.
You and your employer will be recognized for the matching gift.
Appreciated Securities
Gifts of appreciated securities offer a number of advantages over a cash gift. In addition to providing the VHS with
immediate support, you avoid capital gains taxes while also
realizing a tax deduction for the full market value of the securities. The VHS has opened accounts with many brokerage
firms for your convenience.
